JOB HUNTING

Do’s and Don’ts for Job Hunters It’s a sign of the times, economies go through waves and tech companies expand and contract. Whether you’re 21 or 61 you might find yourself looking for a new position. Here’s some do’s and don’ts for those who may find themselves in this situation:

DO Put an “Open to Work” ring around your profile picture on Linkedin

DO Use positive language and get across your enthusiasm for the industry and the work you used to do DO Provide references, that can be reached, and that have worked with you. Your immediate family does not count. DO make it your full-time mission by searching websites, doing research, re-training.

DO Put a complete list of all the companies and short descriptions of the work you embarked upon on your CV. Provide simple explanations for large gaps

DO Be open- minded – you may have to take a salary sacrifice for a while. An average salary is better than no salary. DON’T Use your worst mugshot as your profile picture. Looking harsh, severe or grimacing are rather off- putting for would-be employers

preach all that is wrong with the world. We get that you’re angry and upset at losing your previous position. We hope you’re mature enough to understand it happens to a lot of people. DON’T Be late for your interview. Ever. If you can’t make it to an interview then you probably won’t be able to make it to work.

DON’T Launch into long lists of job descriptions and leave out bullet point lists that make no sense. Explain briefly what you did. DON’T Use TLAs – Three letter acronyms, or any number of acronyms. Not everyone knows what they are.

DON’T Badger friends and ex-colleagues, it’s not their responsibility.
